Teacher Training and NQT Induction

Sub-Menu

Teaching in our school was judged to be outstanding and demanding in our most recent Ofsted inspection. Stimulating lessons are characterised by pace, challenge and high expectations.

All Staff are actively focused on personalised learning and in particular employing explicit strategies to support our most able students. Teachers are motivated and driven by achieving the best possible outcomes and recognise that the intellectual needs of our students are more diverse and complex than can be served by public examinations.  Whilst our examination results and internal assessments reflect the excellent progress made by students; this is almost certainly a product of excellent teaching within our school

Dr Challoner’s High School seeks to develop good practice from within and beyond the school to gain renown as a world-class educational establishment, with a commitment to supporting other educational establishments. Through this developmental aim, we seek to support other schools through the local Teaching School Alliance. We are able to share the excellent practice that exists within our school.

You will not find a more supportive school to complete your teacher training placement in. Help is always at hand and your development is always a priority. I truly believe Dr Challoner’s High is the perfect environment in which to become an outstanding teacher.

School Direct

We have been successful once again in our bid for School Direct places to train teachers at Dr Challoner’s High School.

We will be working in partnership with our two teaching school alliances;

School Alliance

Applications for 2016/17 recruitment will open through UCAS on 27th October.

Bursary-led / fee funded places will be available at Dr Challoner's High School in the following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Physics
  • English
  • Music
  • Classics

 Astra Alliance has been awarded status as a School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider, working with the Institute of Education (UCL) for the PGCE qualification to provide high-quality training placements. During the training year, all trainees will have the opportunity to spend time at least one other of our partnership schools to ensure a contrasting and comprehensive experience. The Alliance has considerable experience of training teachers and recognises and values the enthusiastic contribution that they make to our school communities. The staff at the training schools will share their knowledge and good practice to ensure that trainees are well supported to develop into good and outstanding teachers.

The programme is structured to allow trainees to develop the skills required to teach the subject that they are training in and to develop specific expertise for making a distinctive contribution to practice in their setting.
