Not everyone comes from privileged backgrounds. Dr Challoner's School believes that this should not hinder a pupil's ability to learn.
At our school we provide the Pupil Premium funding, this provides additional funding on top of the main Government funding a school or academy receives. It is targeted at students from disadvantaged backgrounds to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as students from less deprived families.
Pupil Premium goes to students who at any point in the past 6 years have been in receipt of Free School Meals (FSM); or who have been continuously looked after for the past six months or who have been adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 or who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order. In addition, funding is also allocated to students whose parent/parents are currently serving in the armed forces or are in receipt of a pension from the MoD.
Schools have the freedom to spend the Premium in a way that they think will best support the raising of attainment for students attracting Pupil Premium funding. How the Pupil Premium funding is spent is monitored closely and schools are accountable for demonstrating the impact of the funding that they have been allocated.
If you have any questions about the Pupil Premium or would like to hand in an application form, please contact Alison Trouton, Finance Officer
