Class of 2016 – Alumnae Event

As our Year 13 girls approach their last few weeks at DCHS it is important that the connection to the school continues long after they leave. This week we invited all Year 13 girls to sign up to the Challoner’s High Alumnae and on Thursday 21st April the Class of 2016 came together for our alumnae event. Carolyn Ley, DCHS Class of 95 joined us and gave a wonderful talk to the girls about her time at the school, her life and career since leaving and what it means to her to be a Challoner’s High Alumnae. Carolyn organised a class reun-ion last year on 4th July which was held at the school, she said how lovely it was to come back to Dr Challoner’s High, all her friends had a great time reminiscing, really appreciating their education and the fun times here. She gave some examples of her former classmates’ careers which included a British Airways Pilot, Archaeologist, forensic scientist and a famous human rights lawyer married to an even more famous ac-tor!! This is the second time Carolyn has come in to talk to the sixth form and she is always an inspiration offering her help and advice to all the girls. Hollie Taylor talked to the girls about her Life after Challoner’s blog, which provides lots of really practical advice about university, fees etc. asking the girls for contributions and Emma Corden provided a view on what does ‘alumnae’ really mean and how important it is to the school to keep in touch with all of you. She also explained how this year the we are looking for University buddies to give advice to girls in the lower years that might be thinking of going to the same university or the same course. The session ended with refreshments, snacks and cakes which was a welcome close to a successful event.

Netball Tournament Report

On Wednesday 20th April the year 9 A and B netball team went to the District Tournament at Kingsmead Netball Centre. Both teams played well and gradually improved throughout the day. The B team went into the semi-finals of the lower division, and played extremely well but so did the opposition so the game went into 2 minutes extra time, and then another two minutes extra time. Finally the B team managed to win and we advanced through to the final. This game was also a close match but we managed to pull it through at the end and we managed to win the plate! After the tournament we were all thrilled, and all agreed we had great time.

A Team—In my team there was Hannah Lewis (Captain), Aimee Wood, Noami Kaplunov, Izzy Puncher, Holly Martin, Georgia Vicary and Olivia Hopkinson. In the rounds to qualify for the semi-finals, we played very convincingly as we only let in one goal in total. We qualified for the semi-final at the top of our group and were against Chesham Grammar School in the semi-final. During the semi-final we came together as a team and encouraged each other throughout the game which helped us win the match. In the final, we were playing against Beaconsfield High School. We began with a strong start and were initially winning but unfortunately we lost the game 7-3. It was a very close match and everyone played really well. Since the start of the year due to a lot of hard work we have improved as individuals but also as a team.

Thank you to Mrs Mcleod for Tuesday training and Mrs Kemp and Mrs Wood for Wednesday training. We have really enjoyed the sessions this year! Also thank you to Mrs Kemp for taking us to the tournament and Mrs Wood and Mrs Munday-Cripps for coming to support and umpire at the tournament. By Esther Coomber 9C.4

Ring of Pringles!

Year 7 successfully took up the challenge set by Maths prefects Mia Laycock and Fiona McKenzie. Much fun was had in eating the Pringles afterwards too!
