Building a Nation…and some new friendships

“The best bit of the day was getting the chance to work with other people and to make new friends.”

“It was great to use the Tec rooms to do something completely different for the day.”

This was some of the feedback from the 50 students from Year 9 who came together last Friday for a day of creativity and collaboration. Working in groups they were tasked with building their own nation from scratch. Their tasks for the day varied from planning and cooking their own national dish, making a national flag, nominating a national sport and design-ing a set of laws for their citizens to live by.

The results were spectacular and revealed the skill and creativity of the girls when set a real challenge. The highlights of the day included sleeping lions as a national sport, a fully choreographed national dance (with accompanying national anthem!) and promotional videos which aimed to promote the outstanding features of their nation…and of course, the pizza lunch!

The nations created by the girls exceeded all expectations but it was the team spirit that was fostered throughout the day that really impressed. It was an absolute pleasure to work with a group of students who collaborated so imaginatively to develop their ideas and turn them into reality.

What will the girls take away from the day? Some new friendships and hopefully some good memories! But we can take something far more cheering…that these are the minds which will build and develop our Nation into the future!
