New York Trip

Year 13 History and Politics students were lucky enough to travel to New York in October Half Term to aid our current studies of American history and politics and I can safely say this trip was the pinnacle of my Challoner’s career!

Jet-lagged and exhausted, we mustered the energy to go out into New York following our arrival and it was amazing to be able to walk through Central Park, surrounded by the buzz of this exciting city. Unfortunately, broken elevators in the Empire State Building meant we had to walk up 6 flights of stairs, but the views from the top were worth it, even if it was freezing cold. We were also lucky enough to visit the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Ground Zero, which were all so interesting and I found Ground Zero particularly moving.

One of the clear highlights of the trip for me was going to see the Ice Hockey match at the Barclaycard Centre, as we went all-out American with baseball hats, hot-dogs, foam fingers and loud chants and singing when the New York Islanders scored. I also particularly enjoyed watching Mr Bird waiting for 25 girls to finish buying make-up in Sephora. I would like to thank Mr Bird, Miss Brown and Mrs Renyard for taking us on this amazing trip!
