Badminton

My name is Paankhuri Bhatia and I have a passion for badminton. I train four times a week, play competitively on a National level and am currently one of the top 20 players in the under 13 age group for All England. I play all 3 categories in a tournament: Singles, Mixed Doubles and Girls’ Doubles but Singles is my favourite. Lately, I have entered a variety of tournaments such as Under 15 bronze and Under 13 gold. In a recent Under 15 bronze, I won a silver medal in girls’ doubles. I have also won gold medals and trophies in girls’ doubles and mixed doubles events in a recently held county tournament. My bid to win gold in all three events in that tournament fell just 3 points short when I lost in the singles final and had to settle for silver.

I am now looking forward to 24th February where we, as a school, will take on other schools on regional level to win a spot in the Nationals.

Year 7 Cross Country

On Friday, the whole of Year 7 took part in a cross country run around school. Girls of all abilities ran to support their House and everyone felt a sense of pride regardless which place they achieved. The course consisted of two laps around the field and one lap around the astro turf. As we all trundled out of the Sports Hall, excitement and anticipation was in the air.

Suddenly the whistle blew and the race began. The course seemed to go on forever and every step seemed an effort but once the finish line was in view, there was a definite spring in our step. Despite exhaustion, the cheers of support for all the other runners was deafening and it did not seem to matter which house they belonged to. However, this aside, I was overjoyed when the results were announced- Brontë had won! By Olivia Donnelly 7A

Senior Netball

On Wednesday 10th February senior netball had districts, their last netball match as a team. We had eight back to back matches and the team began strong wining matches against both of Burnham’s teams and Beaconsfield. Up next were our rivals Beaconsfield High which we knew would be tough and even though we lost, it was a great match as we put up fight. Our squad went on to win the rest of our matches and placing 2nd overall. It has been an amazing few years with this team and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing coach Mrs McLeod so massive a thank you from the whole team. Also thanks to everyone for all your incredible effort throughout the years, the squad will be thoroughly missed!!

Farewell to Mr Williams

It has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside Mr Williams over the past 3 and a half years. Having joined DCHS in 2012 to teach Computer Science, in the last year we have welcomed him on board Team Maths as a teacher of Years 7 and 8. He is a creative and inspiring teacher and a brilliant colleague who will be much missed by staff and students alike. We wish him the very best for his adventures in New Zealand!

Nisha de Alwis, Head of Maths

Today we sadly say goodbye to Mr Williams who is off to pastures new in New Zealand. He has been an incredible asset to the Computer Science department with his enthusiasm and expertise over the past 3 years. He has been a wonderfully supportive colleague whose unfailing cheerful approach to life makes him a joy to work alongside. Stu-dents have benefited from his teaching, not just in Computing but also in Maths, Science and Graphics –a truly re-naissance man. We shall miss him
