Congratulations to Georgina Barnett who submitted an essay for the Oliver Rackham prize in Biological Sciences. The essay submitted by Georgina was selected as highly commended by the judges.

Young Enterprise Success

This year 49 Year 12 students participated in the Young Enterprise programme, spending the past 7 months success-fully establishing small companies selling goods and services. Students were split between seven companies across the South Bucks region, including three hosted by DCHS.

All students achieved some measure of success at Finals Day on 20th March. Five students were part of the company Endeavour that finished first overall, having created an innovative wireless speaker made with eco-friendly materials. Negotiations are already underway with a design company to mould the product and the company board are looking for investors. Telos, with 8 DCHS members, finished as runners up after designing, publishing and selling over 350 copies of an advice and guidance book for teenagers. A launch with the help of local councillors is planned at Café Africa in Amersham on 27th April.

Other success stories at Finals Day include 1st and 2nd prize for use of Social Media (Telos and Populo), Best Company report (Trak and Ingenium), Outstanding Achievement (Populo), Best Business Plan (Endeavour) and Best Presentation (Endeavour).

Congratulations to members of Endeavour and Telos, who now progress to the County finals on 29th April.

Students taking part in Young Enterprise this year say they would thoroughly recommend the programme to next year’s Year 12. This is a bril-liant opportunity to learn skills for business, put innovative ideas into practice and make profits!

Beggar’s Opera: 2 – 4 March 2016—On the evenings of 2nd, 3rd and 4th March, a joint cast of Year 9 and 10 girls and boys, a technical crew and an incredible student orchestra united to put on a production of the musical, The Beggar’s Opera. Filled with drama, tension and an almost worrying amount of singing, this show stretched everyone’s abilities, and at times, patience! After countless rehearsals and hours spent in the Courtyard with very little exposure to the outside world, all of the complex elements that made the show unique finally came together. The costumes were elegant and duly restrictive of the flow of air to the lungsl The girls looked stunning, the boys surprisingly dapper, even the orchestra were in costume, the previous weekend had been spent with a handful of girls painting backdrops and arranging props to create an authentic 19th Century setting. That day, the lighting crew also learned a valuable lesson; always keep the downlights on. With all the prepara-tions made, the final result was a marvellous performance by the cast with some splendid characters (and catfights) and beautiful music to accompany it in a truly immersive and impressive production. Our thanks and appreciation go to all the staff involved but especially Mrs Dunn (Director), Miss Korzinek (Musical Director) and Gary for his help in set-building.

Kelly Norways - Charity

Head Girl Team

This year Dr Challoner’s has shown amazing support for a whole host of local, national and international charities. I have loved coordinating events which have been greeted with so much enthusiasm. For me, the highlights of the year have been catering for sixty at Slough Homeless Shelter. We collected trays of macaroni and brownies cooked by years 7 and 8! Later in the year we collected donations for the Migrant Crisis, including warm clothing, strollers and sleeping bags. By February we had raised almost £4,500 for various charities, an incredible sum I can only account to the goodwill of the Challoner’s community
